Children in Our World. Heroes in Another.

What if you and your friends went to another world every time you went to sleep?

What if you spent half your life on Earth and the other half fighting for survival against foes too terrible to be real?

And what if you could never tell anyone?

This is reality for the Realm Keepers six kids from Earth thrust into a terrifying war between Midrealm and Chaos. Plucked from their ordinary lives and given extraordinary powers, they're the only thing standing between us and destruction.

In Episode Three, Raven is still coming to grips with her new life as a Realm Keeper. Chaos is striking hard, pushing the barrier back, encroaching ever further on the kingdom of Athorn. But while Raven thinks that she could care less about this new world and the people in it, the stakes are about to get a lot more personal.

The adventure in Midrealm continues. Add it to your cart now!

I have to admit that when I saw this book was from Raven's POV I was a little worried. As a guy who spent the early 90's in goth bands (Pre-Marilyn Manson and before vampires sparkled) I often am turned off by the usual portrayals of so called "goth" characters. Even goth characters written by actual goths tend to set my eyes rolling more often than not.

I am happy to say that my worries were unfounded, the writers really treated her as a teen girl who just happened to be goth which in my opinion was absolutely the right way to go.

The actual body of the episode was for me some of the most exciting stuff yet. There has been action so far in the series but the tension that they build during the action this time was really just a step above what we saw in the first two episodes. For the first time you really feel that sense danger and mortality that is needed to create a compelling action sequence. It caused Barius to go from just another name on the page to a person who I was worried about and routing for. This sort of action writing really made me look forward to what the series has in store for us once we get past the "getting to know you" period of the first season.

On a side note: I think there is a sort of brilliance to the way the adult characters are being portrayed, they are interesting and feel like real adult people not just older foils for the youthful main cast. To me this is what pushes the series past being just a "Young Adult" title and into the pure fantasy realm. I hate to use the obvious Harry Potter comparison but in my opinion that is what made those books work so well across so many age groups.

As with the last episode the best review I can give it was that I bought the next one within a couple dozen heartbeats of reading the last page and I am positive I will not be the only one to do so!

Keep up the great work guys!!!

Realm Keepers Episode Three Garrett Robinson Z C Bolger 9781492197607 Books Reviews

I rated this, the third episode of a great series, four stars, down from the five stars I gave the previous episode. This episode was great, with lots to love about it, but it was not, I feel, up to the caliber of the previous ones. Still a great series and I am definitely looking forward to the next episodes. Start reading the series now, the first episode is free!
I bought the full compilation after reading the free first episode, and this episode doesn't disappoint. I think that Raven's character is probably my favorite; I enjoyed her solo adventure the most and liked how it truly was a solo effort. Some of the details revealed in the finale but that had their stage set here were great and gave me a better appreciation of what she had to do. I also like how the "goth" part of her life wasn't overplayed too much, even if she was previously seen in a tree...(inside joke for fans of the author's podcast and the podcast of their friends)
I have to say, this episode really surprised me. I enjoyed the first two episodes very much, but I wasn't expecting to like this one as much as I'd liked those. Why? Well, mainly because I knew it was centered around the character of Raven.

Now, please don't misinterpret that as me saying that Raven's not a good character. I enjoyed her in the first two books, but for whatever reason, she was my least favorite of the main characters. Maybe the reason for that is because she's a goth girl and that's not something I know much about or can relate to. So, yes, I liked Raven before, but I didn't love her.

But...that was then and this is now. Now, Raven is one of my favorites of the characters.

This episode had a VERY good story and it was great to get to know Raven better. She's certainly not just some goth teenager. She's got some real depth to her and she's very likable.

As for the story itself, it's very well-written and compelling. Also, the action scenes are very well done.

Garrett Robinson and Z.C. Bolger are talented writers and I'm looking forward to reading not just the rest of this series but also other separate works by them.
Realm Keepers continues strong in episode 3. In this episode we follow Raven, keeper of electricity. Raven is a goth and down on life, which makes her difficult to relate to, but very much part of the teenage experience. Raven is a very reluctant Realm Keeper, in contrast to Calvin the previous episode. She doesn't believe in school, extracurricular activities or even her friends very much, but maybe she might find something in Midrealm to care about.

The authors have written another rollicking adventure for part 3 and I very much enjoyed Raven and her Runegard Barrius's interactions. If you've gotten to part 3, you probably already know, but this is story telling at the highest level - enganging, funny and thrilling all packed into a short novella. Highly recommended.
Great series.
I live these books they are fun and end before I'm ready I'm always lookin forward to the next one
Better get all of the books. You have to know what happens next. They were all that way.
